By Air

The best way is first to fly into Lajes Airport, IATA code: TER. Airlines  offer both direct connections from Canada (e.g. Toronto), USA (e.g. Boston, Oakland) and the European mainland (Amsterdam, Madrid, Portugal). Some flights from Europe operate via Lisbon. Also flights from other island of the Archipelago and domestic flights from the Portuguese mainland terminate in Lajes.

To go from Lajes airport to the accommodation there are 2 possibilities:

By Public Transport

There is a bus 5 from Lajes Airport to Angra. The timetable is adapted to the flights and can be found (unfortunately only in Portuguese) here (link: http://www.evt.pt/percursos/documentos/AEROPORTO-A.HEROISMO.pdf). Segunda – Sexta means Monday – Friday, Sábado Saturday and Domingo Sunday. Buses stop in front of the departure terminal and terminate at Angra terminal at Praça Velha. Bus 5 goes directly to Angra, with bus 151 you have to change in Praia and with bus 3 at Biscoitos (very time consuming you have to go around the whole island).  From the end station at Praca Velha you can walk to the hostel, the hotel is about 1.5 km away.

We wil endeavour to organise a shuttle between the airport and Angra.

There is a tourist information office in the arrival hall (after the customs) where you can ask for information. 

By Taxi

A taxi from the airport to Angra will cost you about EUR 20,- 25,-. Taxis depart from the terminal. Usually taxis wait at the airport but if you come very late or very early it might be good to reserve one and give your flight details to the company.

By Boat

There is no boat service to the Portuguese mainland. Boats from the other islands are operated by the company Atlanticoline. Ferries are quite expensive though and take a long time. Also rough seas are not uncommon, don’t forget you are in the middle of the Atlantic. Schedules and further infos can be found here.

Please note that ferries arrive in Praia da Vitória, not in Angra. Bus number 2 connects Angra with Praia. Segunda – Sexta means Monday – Friday, Sábado Saturday and Domingo Sunday. Buses stop in front of the terminal and terminate at Angra terminal at Praça Velha.

Directions from the hotel and hostel to the venue

From the hotel Terceira Mar

Walk out from the hotel onto the main road. Turn right. Walk along following this road until (heading straight onto Rua de Baixo de São Pedro. After 500 metres reach the square Alto das Covas. At the end of the square, turn left into the small road Rua Madre de Deus. At a T-junction after 70 m turn left onto Canada Nova After a bend to the right you will see the Centro Cultural. Total walking time 20 minutes.

From the hotel “Monte Brasil”

From the hotel walk right. Turn right. Soon you will see a large church. Soon you reach to the square Alto das Covas. At the right back end of the square, turn right into the small road Rua Madre de Deus. At a T-junction after 70 m turn left onto Canada Nova. After a bend to the right you will see the Centro Cultural. Total walking time 10 minutes.

From the hostel

From the hostel walk the small lane down to the harbour. Turn right. Soon you will see a large church. Take the road on the left of the church (Rua Direita) until you reach the main road Rua da Sé. Turn left and walk up to the square Alto das Covas. At the end of the square, turn right into the small road Rua Madre de Deus. At a T-junction after 70 m turn left onto Canada Nova After a bend to the right you will see the Centro Cultural. Total walking time 30 minutes.
