About BEACON

The Biennial European Astrobiology Conference (BEACON) brings scientists and experts in the Astrobiology field from Europe and beyond. BEACON will take place at the La Palma &Teneguia Princess Hotel on Fuencaliente, La Palma Island (Canary Islands, Spain) from May, 8th to 12th 2023.

La Palma offers a multitude of relevant research infrastructures (telescopes) and locations (active volcanoes, recent lava fields, Mars-analogue landscapes, etc.). We will visiting many of these sites during our conference excursion.

The programme starts on Monday May, 8th in the morning and ends on Friday May,12th in the evening. With around 10 invited talks (30 min) and 30 contributed talks (15 minutes), in addition to a poster session is planned.

A walk on the close-by Teneguia lava field will be organised on two evenings. On the 10th there will be an excursion to the site of the 2021 eruption and the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory.

An optional after conference-walk on the “Volcano route” (Ruta de los Volcanes) spanning several active volcanoes above 1600m altitude on May 13th.

Bursaries are available for students and early career scientists from EAI Participating Entities (click here for a list). More details available on the Registration Page.

Update: A volcanic eruption occurred on the island of La Palma in October 2021, where the BEACON conference 2023 will take place. The conference venue itself was not threatened by the eruption, but EAI will continue to monitoring the developments very closely. We will keep you updated about any further developments.

The Accommodation booking has to be done at the hotel website directly. You can use our Promo code: PHYSICSTOCKHOLM (valid until 31st of March 2023)

Please do not mix up La Palma (IATA code SPC) with Palma de Mallorca or Las Palmas de Gran Canaria when booking your flight! You would otherwise end up on an island around 100 or 1000 miles from the conference venue.
